A Sanctuary Built
With Purpose
My name is Yuki Tanaka. I grew up watching my grandmother perform a weekly head massage ritual every Sunday evening in Kyoto. It was never just about hair — it was about setting down the weight of the week.
When I moved to Houston, I spent years looking for that same experience. What I found were rushed services that treated the scalp as an afterthought. So in 2019, I opened Hana — named for the Japanese word for flower — with a single vision: to give Houston a true head spa experience rooted in the traditions I grew up with.
Today, Hana is a team of eight trained scalp therapists, and we are still as intentional about every detail as we were on day one.
Three Principles
That Guide Everything
Rooted in Tradition
Our rituals draw from Japanese onsui head spa culture — a practice of hot water therapy and deliberate scalp care that dates back centuries. We carry that depth of intention into every treatment.
Guided by Science
Every product in our treatment library is chosen based on clinical evidence of scalp efficacy. We work with a board-certified dermatologist to review our protocols annually and update our formulas as the science evolves.
Committed to Purity
We use zero synthetic fragrances, no sulfates, and no silicones. Every ingredient is disclosed. Every supplier is vetted. If we would not put it on our own scalp, it does not enter our studio.
Milestones
Hana opens its doors in Houston with two treatment chairs and a waitlist from day one.
Expanded to a full five-chair studio. Added the postpartum hair care specialty program.
Partnered with a board-certified dermatologist to develop our proprietary treatment protocols.
